PReS-FINAL-2243: Reduced volumetric trabecular bone mineral density in children with idiopathic hypercalciuria. A peripheral quantitative computed tomography (PQCT) study (preliminary results)
نویسندگان
چکیده
Methods We studied 14 children (8 boys6 girls, aged 6-18 years) with newly discovered IH who were admitted to our clinic. Most of them presented with either hematuria or recurrent abdominal or lumbar pain. After establishment of the diagnosis, all children underwent DXA of the lumbar spine. We also performed pQCT of the tibia (Stratec XCT-2000 scanner), 4 slices were obtained at the 4%, 14%, 38% and 66% of tibia length sites. For the 4% slice, we assessed variables of trabecular bone and especially trabecular BMD (TRAB_DEN, mg/cm). For 14% we assessed parameters of subcortical bone and for the 38% and 66% sites parameters of cortical bone. pQCT data of the children with IH were compared to those of healthy race-, ageand sex-matched children from the published pQCT database of Moyer-Miller et al (J Clin Densitom, 2008) who used the same pQCT device, software and site measurements as we did.

Evaluation of bone mineral density and bone/muscle geometry using pQCT in children after spinal cord injury
Spinal cord injury (SCI) is associated with a reduction in bone mineral density (BMD) and increasedbone fragility. This study aimed to quantify regional changes in bone mineral density and bone/muscle geometry in children following SCI using Peripheral Quantitative Computer Tomography (pQCT). A retrospective cohort study of 19 patients (10 males and 9 females) with SCI was undertaken. The group...
متن کاملIndividual Trabeculae Segmentation (ITS)–Based Morphological Analysis of High-Resolution Peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography Images Detects Abnormal Trabecular Plate and Rod Microarchitecture in Premenopausal Women With Idiopathic Osteoporosis
Idiopathic osteoporosis (IOP) in premenopausal women is a poorly understood entity in which otherwise healthy women have low-trauma fracture or very low bone mineral density (BMD). In this study, we applied individual trabeculae segmentation (ITS)-based morphological analysis to high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) images of the distal radius and distal tibia to...
متن کاملAbnormal Microarchitecture and Reduced Stiffness at the Radius and Tibia in Postmenopausal Women With Fractures
Measurement of areal bone mineral density (aBMD) by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) has been shown to predict fracture risk. High-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) yields additional information about volumetric BMD (vBMD), microarchitecture, and strength that may increase understanding of fracture susceptibility. Women with (n = 68) and without (n = 101) a ...
متن کاملBone mineral density in steroid-dependent asthma assessed by peripheral quantitative computed tomography.
Chronic use of systemic glucocorticoids results in progressive bone loss and pathologic fractures. This study identified the predictive variables for bone loss and used peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) to measure changes in cortical and trabecular bone in patients receiving systemic glucocorticoid therapy of prednisone 15.4 g. Eighty-four asthmatic patients were included in th...
متن کاملPTH Reverses the Imbalance between Cortical and Trabecular Bone Compartments in Hypoparathyroidism: A Three-Year Longitudinal HR-pQCT Study
INTRODUCTION: Hypoparathyroidism (HypoPT), a disorder of PTH deficiency, is associated with increased areal bone mineral density (aBMD) and microstructural abnormalities in association with markedly reduced bone turnover [1, 2]. In contrast, continuous excess secretion of PTH, as seen in primary hyperparathyroidism, causes preferential reduction of aBMD at the distal 1/3 radius (a cortical site...
